Mexican GP's Day of the Dead tribute honours F1 legends — and Hamilton's bulldog Roscoe
The Mexican Grand Prix paddock features a Day of the Dead display honouring late Formula 1 figures including Ayrton Senna, Enzo Ferrari and Juan Manuel Fangio — with Lewis Hamilton's recently deceased bulldog Roscoe given a place among them.
The Mexican Grand Prix paddock has been transformed into a Day of the Dead memorial, with organisers honouring late Formula 1 figures across several ornate displays — and finding room among the legends for Lewis Hamilton’s bulldog, Roscoe.
Roscoe’s photograph sits at the centre of one display, positioned beneath Ayrton Senna and alongside Enzo Ferrari, Jack Brabham, Juan Manuel Fangio, James Hunt, Patrick Depailler, Pedro Rodríguez and Jean-Marie Balestre. Further displays spread across the paddock walls feature Alberto Ascari, Graham Hill, Roland Ratzenberger, Alex Zanardi, Colin Chapman, Max Mosley, Eddie Jordan, Stirling Moss, José Abed, Ricardo Rodríguez and Jochen Rindt, among others.
Each display is framed by an arch of orange marigolds and lined with candles and black-and-white portraits — a faithful recreation of the traditional Mexican ofrenda altar. Día de Muertos, one of Mexico’s most significant cultural traditions, falls on the same weekend as this year’s race. Families customarily build ofrendas decorated with photographs, candles and marigolds to remember those who have died, and it is common for beloved pets to be included alongside people.
Fans responded warmly on social media. “Roscoe never raced a single lap, but somehow became one of the most loved faces in the paddock. Mexico absolutely nailed this tribute,” one user wrote on Reddit. Others echoed the sentiment: “This is so sweet of them, Lewis will love it” and “Fair play, that’s a class act.”
Hamilton, a seven-time world champion now racing for Ferrari, was famously devoted to Roscoe, who became a recognisable presence in the paddock over more than a decade.
The Mexican Grand Prix is the second round of the penultimate triple-header of the season, following the United States Grand Prix — won by championship leader Kimi Antonelli — and leading into the Brazilian Grand Prix next weekend. The season then concludes with a final triple-header in Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
