McGregor's manager says next UFC fight will come within a year of Holloway bout
Audie Attar, manager of Conor McGregor, says the former double-champion intends to stay active after his July 11 return against Max Holloway at UFC 329 in Las Vegas, with another fight expected inside twelve months.
Conor McGregor’s manager Audie Attar has said the former UFC double-champion plans to fight again within a year of his scheduled July 11 comeback against Max Holloway (27-9) at UFC 329 in Las Vegas’s T-Mobile Arena — McGregor’s first bout since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier in 2021.
“He is definitely looking to stay active,” Attar told MMAjunkie.com. “Next fight, we’re not gonna wait a year, that’s for sure. We’ll see what happens from there. I don’t think we’re looking too far ahead at things. We’re just taking it one step at a time.”
Attar’s comments signal a deliberate shift in messaging around McGregor (22-6), whose return to the Octagon has been years in the making. Although McGregor’s leg healed within roughly twelve months of the Poirier trilogy fight, he did not immediately resume serious training. A prolonged flirtation with a fight against Michael Chandler followed, culminating in a booking for UFC 303 in 2024 that collapsed when McGregor withdrew through injury — leaving Chandler without a marquee opponent for a significant stretch of his career.
The welterweight matchup with Holloway represents a notable stylistic detour for both men. Holloway, a former featherweight champion, is himself moving up in weight, and the bout has generated considerable commercial interest alongside a degree of fan skepticism. Many observers have noted that McGregor’s comeback will only be considered confirmed once he actually steps through the Octagon doors on fight night.
Attar’s insistence on staying active, if borne out, would mark a significant change from the sporadic scheduling that has defined McGregor’s career since 2018. Whether the Irishman can maintain that cadence will depend heavily on how his body responds to full-contact competition for the first time in four years.
