McGregor serenades UFC 329 press conference crowd with Oasis' 'Wonderwall' ahead of five-year comeback
Conor McGregor entertained fans at the UFC 329 pre-fight press conference by singing his own rendition of Oasis' 'Wonderwall', prompted by a question comparing his return after five years away to the Gallagher brothers' reunion tour.
Conor McGregor brought an unexpected musical moment to the UFC 329 pre-fight press conference on Thursday, breaking into a live rendition of Oasis’ ‘Wonderwall’ in front of the assembled crowd. The former two-division champion is set to make his return to the octagon on Saturday after five years out of competition.
The impromptu performance was sparked when McGregor was asked which comeback was bigger — his own return to fighting or Oasis reuniting for their worldwide tour. “The boys are in town I believe,” McGregor said. “The Gallaghers are in town so I like the Oasis lads. It’s good. I can’t wait to see Oasis.”
Liam and Noel Gallagher have attended UFC events previously, and McGregor’s comments hinted that the brothers could make an appearance at UFC 329. Rather than simply answering the question, McGregor took to the stage and delivered his own version of the iconic Britpop anthem to the delight of those in attendance.
McGregor also found time to needle fellow Irishman Paddy Pimblett for failing to join in. “Paddy, where was the back up?” McGregor said with a smile. “I needed back up there!”
The press conference appearance underlined the sense of occasion surrounding McGregor’s long-awaited return. The 36-year-old has not competed since suffering a broken leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021, making Saturday’s bout one of the most anticipated comebacks in the promotion’s history.
