McGregor returns after five years as UFC 329 press conference sets up Holloway rematch
Conor McGregor and Max Holloway shared the stage in Las Vegas on Thursday ahead of their welterweight rematch at UFC 329 on Saturday — McGregor's first appearance in five years since a leg injury ended his UFC 264 bout against Dustin Poirier.
Conor McGregor and Max Holloway faced each other at the UFC 329 press conference in Las Vegas on Thursday, setting the stage for their welterweight rematch on Saturday — McGregor’s first competitive appearance in five years.
The two fighters have history stretching back 13 years. McGregor defeated Holloway by decision at UFC Fight Night 26 in August 2013, a bout contested at featherweight. Their second meeting marks a significant shift: both men move up to welterweight for the rematch, and the tone heading into fight week has been notably respectful compared to many McGregor-era build-ups.
McGregor has not competed since suffering a brutal leg injury in a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. The former two-division champion is also chasing his first victory in over six years. Holloway arrives at UFC 329 looking to rebound from his BMF title loss to Charles Oliveira at UFC 326 in March.
The co-main event also featured at Thursday’s press conference. Paddy Pimblett returns to the octagon following his interim lightweight title fight loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC 324 in January, and will face surging contender Benoit Saint Denis.
The press conference took place at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT in Las Vegas.
