Floyd Mayweather has accused Conor McGregor of borrowing his entire public persona following their 2017 crossover boxing match, and left the door open for a second bout between the two in a recent interview on the PBD Podcast.

Mayweather, who stopped McGregor via technical knockout in Round 10 that night to finish his professional career at 50-0, was asked to assess McGregor’s standing among the all-time great promoters. His answer was characteristically blunt.

“You mean the guy that took my whole swag and took it over there to the UFC?” Mayweather said. “As soon as Conor McGregor faced Floyd Mayweather, he was big as life. I mean, his career wasn’t like that before. What was his biggest payday? What was his biggest fight?”

Mayweather went on to reference the financial scale of the event. His disclosed purse was $100 million, while McGregor received $30 million — a dramatic leap from the $3 million McGregor earned for his 2016 rematch with Nate Diaz, then his highest disclosed UFC payday. Mayweather has previously claimed his total earnings from the fight reached around $300 million once all revenue streams were accounted for.

Despite McGregor’s reputation for dominating pre-fight press tours, Mayweather said he was content to let his opponent do the talking.

“What I was saying is talking doesn’t win fights,” Mayweather said. “He can do all that he wants. I know that when you get in there with Floyd Mayweather, I’m the truth. This whole arena could be filled with Conor McGregor fans, but they can’t fight for you.”

Mayweather then raised the prospect of a sequel, referencing McGregor’s current injury status. “I think me and Conor McGregor may lock up again. Yeah, absolutely. He didn’t break his hand, he broke his foot, right? OK, we’re going from the shoulders.”

McGregor is currently recovering from a knee injury suffered during his comeback fight against Max Holloway at UFC 309 in July — his first bout since 2021. The contest lasted just 69 seconds before referee Mike Beltran stopped it, with a visibly compromised McGregor unable to continue. The 36-year-old has said he intends to complete the final fight on his UFC contract before any other commitments.
