Mayulu left out of PSG squad for Rennes after insufficient training week
Senny Mayulu was not selected by Luis Enrique for PSG's trip to Rennes on Sunday evening in the opening round of Ligue 1. According to L'Équipe, the young midfielder suffered from a training week deemed below the standard of his teammates.
Senny Mayulu was left out of the Paris squad for the trip to Rennes, Sunday evening in the closing match of the first day of Ligue 1, after a training week judged insufficient by Luis Enrique.
According to L’Équipe, the U-21 international delivered sessions below the level of his teammates, which resulted in him being excluded from the matchday squad. A sanction that illustrates the message sent by the Spanish coach in his pre-match press conference: “Compared to last year, it will be different because there will be players left out of the squad. It’s very unfair, but these are the new conditions here.”
Luis Enrique confirmed this demanding approach from the start of the season, not hesitating either to substitute Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia at half-time, both sanctioned for an insufficient first half.
Mayulu’s exclusion takes on particular significance in light of the previous season, when the young midfielder had managed to earn a place in the professional squad. This time, the message is clear: no status guarantees a place in the selected squad, and internal competition will be decided in training as much as in matches.
