Maresca brings seven trusted coaches to Man City as backroom staff confirmed
Manchester City have confirmed the coaching staff joining new head coach Enzo Maresca at the Etihad Stadium, with seven additions including former City goalkeeper Willy Caballero and long-time Maresca lieutenant Roberto Vitiello.
Manchester City have confirmed the seven coaches who will form Enzo Maresca’s backroom staff at the Etihad Stadium, with the majority of the new arrivals having worked alongside the Italian at Leicester City and Chelsea.
Roberto Vitiello is expected to serve as Maresca’s closest lieutenant. The pair first met as teammates at Palermo, and Vitiello has since followed the head coach through spells at Parma, Leicester and Chelsea, where he worked as a technical coach. He had been without a club since Maresca departed Stamford Bridge in January.
Perhaps the most recognisable name to City supporters is Willy Caballero, who returns to the Etihad in a coaching capacity. The Argentine goalkeeper made 48 appearances for the club between 2014 and 2017 before joining Chelsea as a player. His connection with Maresca stretches back to their time together at Malaga, and after retiring in 2023, Caballero joined the manager’s staff at both Leicester and Chelsea.
Danny Walker also has existing ties to the club, having worked within City’s academy during Maresca’s time there. He subsequently followed the head coach to Leicester and Chelsea as part of the first-team setup.
Michele De Bernardin arrives as the club’s new head of goalkeeping. He developed his coaching career in Italy and first linked up with Maresca at Parma, before leaving Sampdoria in 2023 to rejoin him at Leicester and then Chelsea.
Fitness coach Marcos Alvarez brings experience from Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur, in addition to his previous stints under Maresca at Leicester and Chelsea.
Denis Silva joins as a first-team coach having worked with Maresca for the first time at Chelsea, where he arrived with a background in Barcelona’s academy setup.
Completing the group is Javier Molina, who worked as an analyst at Atletico Madrid before joining Maresca’s staff at Leicester and Chelsea, and will continue in the same analytical role at the Etihad.
