AJ Auxerre officially announced on Thursday the signing of Xiangxin Wei, an 18-year-old forward presented by the club as a “great hope of Chinese football”. The player, coming from MZ Hakka, has committed for five seasons and will wear number 49.
Wei is Auxerre’s fourth summer signing, after goalkeeper Mamadou Diop (Grenoble), left-back Sékou Fofana (Lausanne-Sport) and midfielder Arthur Piedfort (Westerlo). The Burgundy club is thus displaying a recruitment policy firmly focused on youth.
Despite his age, the forward already has notable professional experience: 28 league matches on his record, including 17 in the Chinese top division (1 goal) and 11 in the second division. International with the Chinese U16 and U17 selections, he is described by AJA as “versatile in attack”.
“AJA is extremely proud to welcome him and participate in his development,” the club stated in its press release, emphasizing its ambition to support the development of a player who chose Europe at 18 years old.
