Manchester United’s Premier League Christmas schedule has been confirmed, with the club set to play four games between December 27 and January 7 after the league released its festive fixture list weeks earlier than usual.

The highlight of United’s festive run is a home match against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, December 27, kicking off at 4.30pm. Three days later, on Wednesday, December 30, Michael Carrick’s Sunderland visit Old Trafford at 7.30pm.

United then travel to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, January 2, with a 12.30pm kick-off, before rounding off the festive stretch with a home game against Newcastle on Thursday, January 7, at 8pm.

The early release of the schedule follows pressure from United and several other clubs on the Premier League to publish Christmas fixtures sooner than planned, giving supporters more time to arrange travel and accommodation.

The move comes against the backdrop of last season’s Boxing Day controversy, when the Premier League scheduled just a single match on the traditional holiday — United’s home game against Newcastle at 8pm — drawing widespread criticism from fans.

In response, the league issued a statement acknowledging the backlash and explaining that the expansion of European club competitions had forced a revision of the domestic calendar, leaving the Premier League as a 33-weekend competition. The league also promised more Boxing Day fixtures this season, noting that December 26 falls on a Saturday.

“The League can give an assurance that next season there will be more Premier League matches on Boxing Day,” the statement read, adding that special arrangements had been made to ensure no club plays within 60 hours of a previous match across the festive rounds.

Before the Christmas period arrives, United’s attention turns to European competition, with a Champions League home fixture against Sabah FK next on the agenda.
