Manchester United agree £38.8m Ederson deal with Orozco move also confirmed
Manchester United have struck a £38.8m agreement with Atalanta for midfielder Ederson, while Colombian teenager Cristian Orozco is set to officially join from Fortaleza CEIF in July when he turns 18.
Manchester United have agreed a deal worth £38.8m to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson, with the club also set to complete the signing of Colombian youngster Cristian Orozco next month as manager Michael Carrick begins reshaping his squad ahead of a return to the Champions League.
The package agreed with Atalanta comprises an initial £35m fee plus £3.8m in add-ons for the 26-year-old Brazilian, who is expected to be the first arrival in what United are treating as a broader midfield rebuild this summer.
Orozco’s move, meanwhile, has technically been in place since last September, when United and Colombian club Fortaleza CEIF reached an agreement over the midfielder. The transfer could not be formalised at the time because Orozco was 17 years old. He turns 18 in July, at which point he will be eligible to move to Manchester and officially register as a United player.
Despite his age, Orozco was already a peripheral first-team figure at Fortaleza CEIF last season, appearing in 11 matchday squads and coming off the bench twice in Colombia’s top division. United scouts were sufficiently impressed to fast-track his recruitment, and the teenager was given a tour of Carrington and Old Trafford in December.
Beyond the two confirmed deals, United are also monitoring West Ham attacking midfielder Mateus Fernandes. The Portuguese player becomes a more attainable target after the Hammers were relegated to the Championship on the final day of the season, a development that is likely to affect his valuation and his own appetite to remain in the second tier.
