Manchester United agree £35m deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson as Anderson pursuit ends
Manchester United have reached a £35m agreement with Atalanta for Brazilian midfielder Ederson, 26, who will travel to Manchester this month to complete his medical and sign a contract until 2030.
Manchester United have agreed a £35m fee with Atalanta for Brazilian midfielder Ederson, with the 26-year-old set to travel to Manchester this month to undergo his medical and become the club’s first summer signing.
Ederson has agreed personal terms worth £75,000 a week on a deal running until 2030. The midfielder is currently on his summer break following the conclusion of the Serie A season but will link up with the United squad in time for pre-season training, with manager Michael Carrick keen for him to feature in the club’s forthcoming Scandinavia friendlies.
Carrick sanctioned the move primarily because of Ederson’s versatility and work rate. United were also able to accelerate the deal after Ederson was omitted from Brazil’s World Cup squad, removing any scheduling complications around his availability.
The signing comes as United look to rebuild their midfield following the departure of Casemiro. Manuel Ugarte is also expected to leave Old Trafford after falling out of favour, with the club seeking a fee of around £25m for the Uruguayan.
United have ended their interest in Elliot Anderson, who is now expected to join Manchester City. However, Carrick’s recruitment team continues to monitor a number of midfield options, including Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, and Mateus Fernandes. Real Madrid pair Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde have also been linked, though Tchouameni has publicly reaffirmed his commitment to the Spanish club following reports of a dressing-room dispute with Valverde.
The situation at the Bernabeu remains fluid. Returning Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has yet to finalise which players he intends to move on this summer, leaving United’s pursuit of any Madrid assets on hold for now.
