Man United weigh £80m Scott and Tonali bids as midfield rebuild takes shape
Manchester United are weighing moves for Bournemouth's Alex Scott and Newcastle's Sandro Tonali, both valued at £80m and £100m respectively, as the club targets midfield reinforcements following Casemiro's departure ahead of the June 15 window opening.
Manchester United are monitoring several high-profile midfield targets ahead of the summer transfer window opening on June 15, with Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, and Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali all linked as the club looks to reshape its engine room following Casemiro’s exit.
Bournemouth have placed an £80m valuation on Scott and are determined to hold onto the midfielder as they prepare for European football next season. United’s interest is reported, but the Cherries’ resolve to keep him makes any deal far from straightforward.
West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes is also on United’s radar, with the Hammers similarly valuing him at around £80m and said to be in no rush to sell. The club is described as exploring a potential deal rather than having made a formal approach.
The most expensive name on the list is Tonali. The Italian international could leave Newcastle before the start of the season, with some inside the club reportedly expecting rather than fearing his departure — but an asking price of approximately £100m will present a significant obstacle for any interested party, United included.
The need for midfield reinforcement has been sharpened by uncertainty over Manuel Ugarte’s future at Old Trafford, leaving the club with clear gaps to fill in the centre of the pitch.
Separately, United have agreed a £35m deal to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson, with the 26-year-old Brazilian set to sign a four-year contract with an option for a fifth year. The move had been expected to conclude in early July, but that timeline has shifted after Ederson was called up to the Brazil squad as a replacement for the injured Wesley.
