Man United eye £30m Summerville signing if Rashford exits Old Trafford this summer
Manchester United are monitoring West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville as a £30m replacement for Marcus Rashford, whose preference to leave the club is shaping United's summer transfer plans.
Manchester United are prepared to move for West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville if Marcus Rashford departs Old Trafford this summer, according to The Guardian. The Dutch international could be available for around £30 million following West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League.
Summerville, 24, is considered the ideal profile to replace Rashford, who spent the past 18 months away from Old Trafford on loan. West Ham are said to be open to offers for the former Leeds United man should a suitable bid arrive.
Rashford is due to return to Carrington after his summer break following the World Cup, where he has been on international duty with England. The 28-year-old has two years remaining on his contract, but his reported £17.5 million-a-year wages are understood to be a sticking point for interested clubs. Barcelona, where Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan and helped Hansi Flick’s side win La Liga, opted against triggering the buyout clause in his deal.
United’s preference, per The Guardian, is to sell Rashford rather than reintegrate him into the squad following his high-profile fallout with manager Ruben Amorim — a rift that initially led to a short-term loan spell at Aston Villa before his move to Barcelona.
Summerville had a mixed World Cup with the Netherlands, scoring twice and contributing two assists in four matches before the Oranje were eliminated by Morocco in the Round of 32 on penalties — a shootout in which he missed his spot-kick. His club season in east London was similarly underwhelming, yielding just five goals and two assists as West Ham were relegated to the Championship for the first time in 14 years.
United have already been active in the transfer market this summer. A move for West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes fell through after Tottenham Hotspur secured the Portuguese 21-year-old, but Michael Carrick’s side have since added Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans to bolster their midfield.
