Maddison Levi leads Australia Women's Sevens squad against Black Ferns in Sydney double-header
Star winger Maddison Levi returns from the Ultimate Sevens off-season league to headline Australia's women's squad for back-to-back matches against New Zealand in Sydney on Friday and Saturday. The men's side, captained by Henry Hutchinson, face Fiji across the same two-day event.
Maddison Levi headlines Australia’s women’s Sevens squad for a two-day fixture against the Black Ferns in Sydney, with matches scheduled at Rose Bay on Friday 16 October and Accor Stadium on Saturday 17 October. The men’s side, captained by Henry Hutchinson, will face Fiji across the same back-to-back event.
Levi’s inclusion comes after the star winger spent the off-season competing in the Ultimate Sevens league. She is joined in the women’s squad by HSBC SVNS series regulars including captain Isabella Nasser, Bienne Terita, Kaitlin Shave, Heidi Dennis, and Faith Nathan.
Australia Women’s Sevens coach Reg Tayler described the event as an ideal preparation window. “It’s a great opportunity to showcase Sevens to a big crowd, and the perfect hit out for us,” he said. “There’s a great mix of experience and exciting new faces. You can expect a fit, energetic team that sticks together and sets the standard every time we take the field as we build towards Dubai.”
The men’s squad draws heavily on HSBC SVNS experience, with 11 players from the 2025-26 series selected alongside Hutchinson. Tokyo Olympian Josh Coward returns to the setup, while ACT Brumbies Academy member Jarvis Orr and Bond University’s Deon Evans-Ao Leifi earn call-ups. Maurice Longbottom, Josh Turner, James Turner, and Ben Dowling are also included.
Men’s coach Liam Barry highlighted the significance of the occasion. “To have all four teams in Gold playing on the same day at Accor Stadium is unprecedented and something our team does not take for granted,” he said.
The Friday fixtures take place at the Eastern Suburbs District Rugby Union Football Club in Rose Bay, with the women kicking off at 6:15pm AEDT and the men at 6:45pm AEDT. Both sides play again on Saturday at Accor Stadium, where the Wallabies also host the All Blacks and the Wallaroos face Scotland in a quadruple-header.
