Mackenzie Carson re-signs with Gloucester Hartpury after Achilles surgery comeback
Dual international prop Mackenzie Carson has committed her future to Gloucester Hartpury, signing a new contract after returning from double Achilles tendon surgery that kept her sidelined for 14 months.
Mackenzie Carson has signed a new contract with Gloucester Hartpury, securing the England and former Canada international prop’s future at Kingsholm Stadium following a lengthy injury absence.
Carson made her first appearance for the club in 14 months last weekend, coming off the bench in a 41-39 defeat to Trailfinders Women, after double tendon surgery on her Achilles had restricted her involvement across the season for the three-time Premier Women’s Rugby champions.
“I’m incredibly happy to be staying at Gloucester Hartpury,” Carson said. “From the moment I arrived, the club felt like home and it’s an environment that allows me to be myself while continually challenging me to become a better player. After undergoing double tendon surgery on my Achilles last year, it’s been incredibly rewarding to get back out on the pitch and do what I love again.”
The 27-year-old had previously represented Bristol Bears and Saracens before joining Gloucester Hartpury. She won three caps for Canada before switching her international allegiance to England in 2023, and has since established herself as a significant figure for the Red Roses.
Carson featured in all five of England’s matches at this year’s Guinness Women’s Six Nations, starting against Wales and France. She was also part of the squad during England’s Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 campaign, though her role there was more limited.
Gloucester Hartpury’s Head of Rugby, Dan Murphy, welcomed the renewal with clear enthusiasm. “Mackenzie has made a huge impact since arriving at Gloucester Hartpury. She’s an exceptional athlete and a world-class prop, but what has impressed us most is her appetite to improve and the standards she sets every day,” he said. “She has embraced everything that makes this club special, both on and off the field, and has become an important leader within our environment.”
