Lukaku and Tielemans rescue Belgium with two goals in three minutes to level Senegal at 2-2
Belgium looked dead and buried at 2-0 down against Senegal at the 2026 World Cup, but substitute Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans struck in the 86th and 89th minutes to force extra time.
Belgium snatched a dramatic late equaliser to deny Senegal a place in the round of 16, clawing back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 through 90 minutes at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday, sending the tie into extra time.
Habib Diarra and Ismaïla Sarr had given Senegal a commanding two-goal lead and appeared to have secured their passage to the knockout rounds. But Belgium refused to fold. Substitute Romelu Lukaku pulled one back in the 86th minute, and Youri Tielemans completed the comeback just three minutes later to level the score at 2-2.
The turnaround was as sudden as it was stunning — two goals in the space of three minutes erasing what had seemed an insurmountable deficit with the clock winding down.
The teams will now contest 30 minutes of extra time, split into two 15-minute halves. Should the scores remain level, a penalty shootout will determine which side advances to the round of 16.
