PSG failed to win at Rennes on Sunday, conceding a 2-2 draw at Roazhon Park in the closing match of the opening day of Ligue 1. Luis Enrique, already cautioned with a yellow card during the match for vehemence, extended his anger at the press conference.

The French champions came close to suffering a heavier defeat. Trailing from the 9th minute to a goal by Sebastian Szymanski, the Parisians conceded a second goal from Esteban Lepaul before the break, finding themselves two goals down at half-time.

Faced with this first half deemed insufficient, Luis Enrique did not hesitate to substitute Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. After the match, the Spanish manager sent a direct message to the Ballon d’Or: “Paris Saint-Germain has won nothing, nothing. If you think about what you have won, you will win nothing! There is no credit. You must show every day, every match, every training session, that you are ready. Otherwise it’s easy to rest and slip.”

But it was on refereeing that Luis Enrique dwelled most at length. He criticizes the refereeing body for leniency towards Rennes players when they were trying to waste time. “We had meetings with referees where they say they will do things but afterwards… That’s how it is. I’m frustrated about different situations, of course,” he said.

Referee M. Dechepy had nonetheless applied the new rule against time-wasting, awarding a corner to PSG when goalkeeper Brice Samba was slow to take a goal kick. This whistle was not enough to calm Luis Enrique, who received a yellow card shortly after for being too vehement on the sideline.
