Lorenz redeems DWCS debut humiliation with first-round KO of Aly at Week 2

Alik Lorenz erased the memory of a 30-second knockout loss on last year's Contender Series by flooring Mahamed Aly with a right hand and follow-up hammer-fists in the first round of DWCS 2026 Week 2.

Alik Lorenz turned his Dana White’s Contender Series redemption story into reality on August 18, stopping Mahamed Aly in the first round of a light heavyweight bout at DWCS 2026 Week 2.

Lorenz, now 7-2, dropped Aly with a massive right hand before swarming with hammer-fists on the ground, leaving the referee no choice but to intervene. It was a statement performance from a fighter who had been on the wrong end of a 30-second knockout by Abdul-Rakhman Yakhyaev in his Contender Series debut twelve months earlier.

That swift exit clearly left a mark. Lorenz said he left his first DWCS appearance feeling he had never had the chance to show what he could do, and he made himself a promise before returning in 2026.

“Last year I didn’t get to show anything off,” Lorenz said in his post-fight interview. “So, I think that was the biggest heartbreak. So, I made a promise to myself: I’m gonna go in there and give everything I have. Definitely not leave it to the judges. I just wanted to be proud of myself and the performance I gave. And I am.”

The 29-year-old had kept himself sharp between the two Contender Series appearances, picking up a first-round knockout on the regional circuit to earn his way back onto the UFC’s developmental platform.

Lorenz credited The MMA Lab for his continued development, acknowledging there is still work to do — particularly around footwork and feinting — but insisted the loss to Yakhyaev would not define him. “Just being consistent, not letting that loss determine me,” he said.

With a UFC contract now firmly in his sights, Lorenz’s second chance at the Contender Series produced exactly the kind of finish that tends to catch Dana White’s attention.
