Liverpool weigh £50m Trincao move as Bayern Munich circle teenage star Ngumoha
Newly appointed Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola faces an immediate transfer double-header: reports link the club to a £50m move for Sporting CP's Francisco Trincao, while Bayern Munich have identified 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha as a summer target.
Andoni Iraola has barely had time to settle into his office at Anfield before his first transfer challenges arrived. The Spaniard, appointed Liverpool manager earlier this week following the dismissal of Arne Slot, must now navigate a summer window shaped by the club’s fifth-place Premier League finish and the high-profile departure of Mohamed Salah.
Bayern Munich eye Ngumoha
The most pressing concern on the defensive side of the ledger is Bayern Munich’s reported interest in Rio Ngumoha. According to The Athletic, the Bundesliga champions have identified the 17-year-old as an ideal addition to a forward line that already includes former Liverpool winger Luis Diaz. The report notes that no formal contact has been made between the clubs, and Ngumoha himself is said to be aware of the interest.
Liverpool supporters will find some reassurance in the teenager’s own words. After netting the opener in a 2-0 win over Fulham in April — a goal that made him the club’s youngest-ever league scorer — Ngumoha was unambiguous about his feelings: “Liverpool, for me, is the biggest club in the world. To start so young and the manager having belief in me and all the players, it’s great. So, I’ve got to keep working hard and keep pushing on and just go again.”
Ngumoha’s direct, high-energy style is also considered a strong fit for Iraola’s characteristically intense, pressing-based system.
Trincao emerges as Salah replacement candidate
On the incomings front, Liverpool are reportedly considering triggering the £50 million release clause of Sporting CP winger Francisco Trincao, according to Portuguese outlet Record, which describes the Premier League club as the “closest” of his suitors. The report adds that Sporting will need to sell assets before completing any purchase.
Trincao, 26, spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he managed two goals in 28 league appearances — a modest return that raised questions about his top-flight readiness. His form in Portugal since joining Sporting permanently in 2023, however, tells a markedly different story: 47 goals and 51 assists across 208 matches have established him as one of the Primeira Liga’s most productive attackers.
The Portuguese international had been considered a secondary option behind Yan Diomande in Liverpool’s winger search, but the Trincao reports suggest Iraola’s recruitment team may be pivoting toward a more experienced profile as they look to fill the void left by Salah’s exit.
