Kvaratskhelia out six months: Luis Enrique rules out emergency signing at PSG
After Khvitcha Kvaratskhelia's anterior cruciate ligament rupture, Luis Enrique stated in a press conference that PSG will not specifically recruit to compensate for this injury, while leaving the door open to a winter opportunity.
Luis Enrique firmly ruled out an emergency signing at Paris Saint-Germain, despite the serious injury to Khvitcha Kvaratskhelia. On Saturday, two days before Lyon’s trip to the Parc des Princes for the eighth matchday of Ligue 1, the Spanish manager sought to clarify the club’s position during a press conference.
The Georgian winger ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee on Tuesday during PSG’s 4-2 victory over Barcelona in the Ligue des Champions. His absence is estimated at least six months. A considerable loss, but one that does not change the club’s transfer strategy according to his manager.
“No injury requires us to sign or recruit new players. None,” Luis Enrique said firmly, recalling his statements from the start of the season: “I said we could cope and be at ease, even if there were two or three major injuries.”
However, the Paris coach did not completely close the door to a winter reinforcement. He clarified that the club remained “always attentive to every opportunity to recruit new players” if the need arose, before concluding: “It is a responsibility we have: to be attentive during the transfer window. But not for injuries.”
The message is therefore twofold: no recruitment dictated by the medical staff, but constant monitoring of the market if a quality opportunity presents itself this winter. PSG approaches this PSG-Lyon match with a squad already deprived of one of its most decisive elements since the start of the season.
