Kulusevski pleads guilty to speeding as Spurs winger faces six-month driving ban

Dejan Kulusevski is facing a six-month driving ban after pleading guilty to speeding through the Limehouse Link tunnel in London, with the Tottenham Hotspur winger’s case referred to a sentencing hearing at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on 21 September.

The 26-year-old Swedish international was caught doing 43mph in a 30mph zone at 3.39pm on 28 September last year, prosecuted by the Metropolitan Police after being clocked by a camera in his Audi. The guilty plea was entered last week via the Single Justice Procedure.

According to written submissions from the Met, Kulusevski now holds at least 12 penalty points on his licence. Under UK law, motorists who reach that threshold can be disqualified for six months unless they successfully argue that such a ban would cause “exceptional hardship”.

Kulusevski submitted an email to the court outlining his mitigating circumstances, explaining he was unable to attend in person due to his return to training “after a one year injury as a professional footballer”. The winger missed the entirety of last season and Sweden’s participation in the 2026 World Cup through injury.

“My young family need me to drive them to various appointments and in case there are necessities to go to a hospital with them I have to be on hand,” he wrote. “I also drive to work and back where the hours can be antisocial — eg. I return from an away game very late at night.”

Kulusevski acknowledged in the email that his “speeding offences were mostly just over the varying speed limits in London areas”, before adding: “However, I understand I was over the speed limit.”

The winger has scored 25 goals for Spurs since joining the club from Juventus in 2022 and will be hoping to avoid a ban that could disrupt both his professional commitments and family life as the new season gets under way.
