Kate Scott mocks Micah Richards on air over Man City's guilty verdict on 114 charges
CBS Sports host Kate Scott took a pointed swipe at Micah Richards during the Champions League broadcast, joking that the former Manchester City defender may soon have to 'mail his medals' following the club's guilty verdict on all 114 financial rule breaches.
CBS Sports host Kate Scott publicly needled former Manchester City defender Micah Richards on Tuesday night, quipping during the Champions League pre-show that he might soon need to return his Premier League and FA Cup winners’ medals following the club’s guilty verdict on all 114 financial rule breach charges.
Introducing her panel in London, Scott ran through the trophy hauls of Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher before turning to Richards with a pointed aside: “And then, this is awkward, isn’t it? He already has fewer accolades on set than anybody else. For now, he is still a Premier League winner and FA Cup winner — before he has to mail those medals to somebody at Stoke or Manchester United. Big Meeks, Micah Richards.”
Henry, visibly stunned, said “wow” three times in quick succession, while Carragher broke into open laughter. Richards did not respond verbally, instead dropping his head, staring at the table and rearranging his pen and phone.
The moment landed against a backdrop of genuine emotion from Richards, who had already spoken publicly about his distress at the verdict. Speaking separately, he said: “I feel devastated, really, for the fans. Coming through the Man City academy all the way to the first team, winning trophies — for all that to be in question now is very confusing.”
Richards also acknowledged the personal dimension of the fallout. “My integrity is being questioned. I’m in a difficult position. I’ve given everything for this club — I’ve literally got one knee because of this club.”
He added that the length of the process had compounded the pain for supporters: “I feel let down by the fact that it’s dragged on for so long. Make it easier for the fans. Us as players — what can we do?”
Manchester City have appealed the independent Commission’s decision and continue to maintain their innocence.
