Harry Kane carries England’s World Cup hopes into Wednesday’s semi-final against Argentina in Atlanta, Georgia, having scored six goals and added one assist to put himself firmly in contention for the Golden Boot. Thomas Tuchel’s side would reach their first World Cup final since 1966 with a victory over their old rivals.

Kane and Trump: ‘A pretty surreal experience’

Ahead of England’s quarter-final win over Norway, Kane revealed he accepted an invitation from US President Donald Trump to play golf in Florida around 18 months ago — a round he described as unlike anything else in his career.

“When the president invites you somewhere, it was a pretty surreal experience just to meet him and obviously play golf with him,” Kane said. “His golf is pretty good, to be honest with you. I hope I can play golf as good as him when I’m his age, that’s for sure. A unique experience, but I was just grateful that he invited me to play.”

Trump has since returned the compliment. “I think Kane is a great player. I played golf with him and I like him a lot. He’s a good golfer too. He’s really great,” the president said.

Family life with Kate Goodland

Kane and his wife Kate Goodland have known each other since childhood, first meeting at Larkswood Primary School before both attending Chingford Foundation School in Waltham Forest. They married in 2019 and have four children together: Ivy Jane, Vivienne Jane, Louis Harry, and Henry Edward.

Kane has spoken candidly about how fortunate he considers himself to have found a partner before fame and fortune arrived. “If I was single now and meeting people, you’d never know if they were with you for the right reasons,” he told the Evening Standard. “Is it the money? You’d never really know. So I’m lucky that I’ve got a childhood sweetheart.”

When Kane completed his move from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich in August 2023, he initially relocated to Germany alone while arrangements were made for his family to follow. They are now settled in Grunwald, one of Munich’s most exclusive residential areas — a neighbourhood sometimes referred to as the ‘Beverly Hills of Bavaria’ — where the family’s reported £30m property sits on the edge of a forest with panoramic views.

A title-winner heading into the biggest night

Kane’s World Cup campaign has followed directly from a landmark club season in which he helped Bayern Munich end their wait for the Bundesliga title. Now, with England 90 minutes from a first World Cup final appearance in 59 years, the 31-year-old striker is at the centre of the nation’s attention once more.
