Harry Kane presented himself at a press conference on Friday as the main contender for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, with the ceremony set for 26 October. The 33-year-old Bayern Munich striker acknowledged without hesitation that the past season represents his best opportunity to claim the supreme individual award.

“This is my best chance of winning it since the start of my career. Last season was my best year, both personally and collectively,” said the Walthamstow native, on the eve of England’s match against Spain at Wembley for the opening day of the Nations League.

The figures certainly support him: 61 goals in 51 matches across all competitions, three titles won with Bayern Munich, and a World Cup concluded in third place with the Three Lions. An accumulation of performances that has propelled him to the top of the predictions, ahead of Lamine Yamal, to succeed Ousmane Dembélé on the honours roll.

“I would be extremely proud to win this award. I have accomplished many great things last year that I am proud of. Now, everything depends on the votes,” he added, leaving the final decision to the voters.

The verdict will be announced on 26 October.
