Juventus eye Newcastle's Woltemade on loan as Zirkzee and Alvarez deals reshape striker market

Juventus have approached Newcastle United about a season-long loan for striker Nick Woltemade, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, with the window closing on Tuesday night and a broader chain of striker moves potentially accelerating the deal.

Newcastle signed Woltemade from Stuttgart just 12 months ago in a deal believed to be worth around £69 million. The 24-year-old Germany international scored 11 goals during his first season on Tyneside, but now faces an uncertain future at St James’ Park amid reported interest from Italy.

Woltemade is one of two strikers on Juventus’ radar, with Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee the other option under consideration. The Italian club’s search for a forward has been triggered by the likely departure of Jonathan David, who is strongly linked with a move to Atletico Madrid.

David’s potential arrival at Atletico is itself connected to Julian Alvarez, who has emerged as a target for both Arsenal and Barcelona this summer. Should Alvarez leave the Spanish capital before Tuesday’s deadline, it would create the vacancy David is expected to fill — and in turn push Juventus to finalise a striker signing of their own.

Zirkzee, widely expected to leave Manchester United this summer, has been linked with both Juventus and Atletico. Earlier reports suggested Fiorentina were interested in the Netherlands international, but those talks are said to have broken down, leaving his destination unresolved.

The Woltemade situation adds another layer of complexity to Newcastle’s already turbulent summer. The Magpies have seen Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimarães and Sandro Tonali all depart St James’ Park, while they have brought in Nico González, Bazoumana Touré, Amar Dedić, Aladji Bamba, Lukas Horníček, Sean Steur and Ewen Jaouen.

David himself had previously been linked with a move to Newcastle during his time at Lille before joining Juventus on a free transfer last summer, adding a further thread of irony to the current negotiations.
