Jean Silva submits Delgado with one-arm rear-naked choke to headline Noche UFC

Jean Silva survived an early knockdown and a cautious opening to submit Jose Miguel Delgado with a one-armed rear-naked choke at 2:57 of the third round, headlining Noche UFC in Arizona. The finish extended Silva’s winning streak to two and prompted an immediate call-out of the featherweight title.

Silva spent much of the opening round passive at the centre of the octagon, allowing Delgado to chip away with kicks. The strategy briefly backfired when Delgado landed a sharp right hand that put Silva on the canvas, forcing the Brazilian to raise his tempo. A second stinging right from Delgado near the end of round one twisted Silva’s head and drew a loud reaction from the crowd.

The fight turned in the second round as Silva began closing the distance and pressing Delgado against the cage. A well-timed takedown gave Silva the opportunity to land ground and pound before both men returned to their feet. Silva grew increasingly adventurous, mixing punches with a wild kick and a spinning back elbow as he hunted for the finish.

The decisive moment arrived in the third round when Silva pinned Delgado on the cage and unloaded a heavy shot that dropped him to the canvas. Silva immediately took his back and locked in a rear-naked choke — securing it with just one arm — leaving Delgado no choice but to tap.

“This is for you guys,” Silva told the Arizona crowd after the finish. “This is the show I bring in for you guys. No animosity from me. This is for you and you deserve this.”

Silva then turned his attention to the featherweight title. “This message is not for the division. It’s for the next champion. Whoever holds that belt, the next champion is right here. There’s a new champion in tow.”

With reigning featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski already booked against Movsar Evloev in October, a title shot for Silva is unlikely in the near term. Nevertheless, his status as one of the UFC’s most entertaining fighters means a high-profile matchup against a top contender figures to follow quickly.
