Jack Crowley will miss Munster’s URC quarter-final against the Vodacom Bulls in Pretoria on Saturday after the province confirmed the Ireland fly-half remains unavailable due to an ongoing neural leg issue. The 24-year-old had been expected to return for the knockout rounds following a three-match absence at the end of the regular season, but Munster’s latest medical bulletin rules him out.

Crowley has been one of Munster’s standout performers this season, accumulating 100 points across 12 appearances for the province. His absence is a significant blow given the quality of the opposition and the stakes of a knockout fixture on South African soil.

JJ Hanrahan, 33, will continue to fill the number ten shirt, with Saturday set to be his 17th appearance of the season in Munster red. The veteran has shouldered the playmaking burden during Crowley’s spell on the sidelines.

Head coach Clayton McMillan does have some positive selection news to work with. Lock Fineen Wycherley and centre Alex Nankivell have both returned to training after missing the 24-17 home win over the Lions in Munster’s final regular-season fixture — the result that secured their play-off berth and Champions Cup rugby for next season.

Munster will be wary of the Bulls on their home patch. The two sides met at Loftus Versfeld at the end of March, with the Bulls running out 34-31 winners in what proved to be a closely contested encounter.

Skipper Craig Casey reflected positively on the Lions victory, saying the passion for the club was evident throughout the performance that clinched their post-season place.
