Horner breaks silence on misconduct allegations 15 months after Red Bull exit
Christian Horner has spoken publicly for the first time about the misconduct allegations made against him during his Red Bull tenure, telling 60 Minutes Australia he has no regrets and trusted a process that cleared him twice.
Christian Horner has broken his silence on the misconduct allegations that overshadowed his final months at Red Bull Racing, telling 60 Minutes Australia he denies every accusation made against him and has no regrets about how he handled the period.
In December 2023, a female Red Bull employee lodged a formal grievance against Horner alleging inappropriate and controlling behaviour. An independent investigation by an external specialist barrister concluded on 28 February 2024 with Red Bull GmbH officially clearing Horner of any wrongdoing. Within 24 hours of that verdict, an anonymous email containing a file of 79 alleged WhatsApp screenshots between Horner and the complainant was circulated to hundreds of F1 journalists, team principals and FIA executives.
The complainant subsequently lodged a formal appeal, triggering a second independent investigation. On 8 August 2024, Red Bull GmbH announced that a second independent lawyer had also dismissed the appeal, fully exonerating Horner for a second time. He departed the team roughly 15 months ago.
“Look, I deny any accusations that have been made against me,” Horner stated during the broadcast. Asked whether he wished he had handled the turbulent period differently, he was equally direct: “I think probably enough has been written and said about it… for me it’s about looking forward rather than backwards now. So no regrets. Look, I think, as I say, I followed the process; I believed in the process; it was dismissed twice. You move, you know, you focus on the next challenges in your life, your career, and obviously the priorities of your family.”
Horner also reflected on the intense media scrutiny he faced, attributing much of the sensationalism to his high-profile marriage to former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell and his elevated celebrity status, which he links in part to Netflix’s Drive to Survive documentary series. The couple made a deliberate show of solidarity at the 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix, walking hand-in-hand through the paddock in the immediate aftermath of the anonymous leak.
