Highlanders prop Lienert-Brown banned four weeks after red card against Hurricanes
Daniel Lienert-Brown has been suspended for four weeks after being red carded in the seventh minute of the Highlanders' 45-28 loss to the Hurricanes in Wellington. The Foul Play Review Committee set a six-week entry point for his dangerous tackle on Devan Flanders, reduced after his admission of guilt.
Highlanders prop Daniel Lienert-Brown has been handed a four-week suspension following his red card in the 45-28 Super Rugby loss to the Hurricanes in Wellington. He was dismissed in just the seventh minute for a rising tackle on Hurricanes flanker Devan Flanders, which the judiciary found to constitute a dangerous tackle under Law 9.13.
The Foul Play Review Committee determined the offence merited a mid-range entry point of six weeks. That was reduced to four after consideration of Lienert-Brown’s previous disciplinary record and his admission of guilt.
Flanders is also set to miss the Hurricanes’ upcoming clash against the Crusaders, having been removed from the field under return-to-play protocols following the incident.
The suspension will extend beyond the current Super Rugby regular season. The Highlanders have a bye in the final round, meaning the remaining games of the ban will carry over. Lienert-Brown’s side are out of playoff contention, sitting on a 5-9 record with 24 competition points.
