Brahim Hemdani took charge of the Algerian national team on 5 September with a significantly more modest contract than his predecessor: according to La Gazette du Fennec, the new Algeria manager will earn between €25,000 and €30,000 per month, five to six times less than Vladimir Petkovic, who was earning around €160,000 monthly at the time of his departure on 3 August.

Assistant coach Anthar Yahia is expected to receive between €15,000 and €20,000 per month. The savings made by the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) are therefore substantial, with the technical staff payroll falling below €50,000 per month.

Despite this cost reduction, the objectives set for Hemdani remain ambitious. The 48-year-old coach, former U21 manager, is contracted until the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, to be held in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania from 19 June to 18 July 2027. The minimum condition imposed by the FAF: reaching the semi-finals of the tournament, a threshold identical to the one assigned to Petkovic when his contract was extended.

The contract clauses provide for different scenarios based on performance. In the event of failure at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, Hemdani and Yahia could leave their positions without compensation. If they reach the semi-finals, a one-year extension until the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations would be considered. The most favourable scenario — a victory at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations coupled with qualification for the 2030 World Cup — would open the way to a contract extension until 2030, with a salary increase.
