Lewis Hamilton has been summoned to the Formula 1 stewards at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix after allegedly impeding Liam Lawson during second practice in Baku on Friday.

The Ferrari driver was harvesting energy through the final sector when Lawson, on a flying lap for Racing Bulls, closed rapidly and was forced to take avoidant action at Turn 19 — the penultimate corner of the Baku street circuit. The incident occurred at 16:33 local time, according to an FIA statement that cited an alleged breach of Article B4.1.1 of the F1 regulations.

Lawson was immediately on team radio after the near-miss. “Oh my god, that is so dangerous,” he said, a sentiment his race engineer Alexandre Iliopoulos echoed: “Yeah, agree.”

Both drivers were called before the stewards at 5:30pm local time. Should a penalty be issued, Hamilton — the seven-time world champion in his debut season with Ferrari — would most likely face a grid drop for Sunday’s race.
