Lewis Hamilton called it one of the most meaningful moments of his career — not a race win or a championship, but a lap of Ferrari’s Fiorano test track in a vintage three-seater F1 car with his brother Nicolas sitting directly behind him.

Speaking at the drivers’ press conference ahead of the British Grand Prix weekend at Silverstone, the seven-time world champion opened up about the experience, which had originally been planned for 2024 before being cancelled at the last minute. Hamilton revealed he had flown to Italy for the run, only to receive a call about the deteriorating health of his dog Roscoe. He immediately turned around, flew back to Los Angeles, and the Fiorano trip was shelved.

This time, Hamilton made it happen — and brought Nicolas along for the ride.

“To be able to experience that with someone so close to me, particularly my brother, who I’ve known since he was born, and with everything he’s gone through and him supporting me all these years, and him to be right behind me and I get to hear him giggling and experience the emotion that I have every time I’m in the car was a really profound moment,” Hamilton said.

Nicolas Hamilton, who has cerebral palsy and has competed in motorsport himself, had spent years watching his brother race at the highest level. Lewis said the reality of being inside an F1 car clearly surpassed anything Nicolas had imagined from the outside.

“He’s watched it all these years, and he’s tried to imagine what it’s like, and I think it was beyond what he had ever imagined,” Hamilton added. “And that’s only natural. So, I can’t wait to do it again and take him out again.”

The car used was a V10-powered three-seater Ferrari — an older machine built specifically to carry a passenger — rather than a current-specification Formula 1 car. Hamilton noted the novelty of having someone other than an engineer in his ear during a run.

Hamilton arrives at his home race at Silverstone sitting third in the drivers’ championship in his debut season with Ferrari.
