Hamilton claims British GP sprint pole at Silverstone ahead of Antonelli and Verstappen
Lewis Hamilton set the fastest time in sprint qualifying at the 2026 British Grand Prix, putting his Ferrari on pole ahead of Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli and Red Bull's Max Verstappen.
Lewis Hamilton will lead the field for the British Grand Prix sprint race at Silverstone after setting the fastest time in sprint qualifying on Friday, placing his Ferrari ahead of Kimi Antonelli’s Mercedes in second and Max Verstappen’s Red Bull in third.
The result puts Hamilton on pole for a sprint at his home race, a circuit where he has a record-extending history of success. Charles Leclerc qualified fourth, completing a strong showing for Ferrari ahead of the short-format race.
Antonelli, the young Italian who replaced Hamilton at Mercedes for the 2025 season, lines up directly behind his former team-mate on the front row — a pairing that underlines how quickly the 18-year-old has established himself at the front of the grid.
Verstappen’s third place keeps the reigning champion in contention at a circuit that has not always favoured Red Bull in recent seasons. The Dutchman will be looking to convert grid position into points before Sunday’s main event.
The provisional grid is subject to final validation by the FIA before the sprint gets underway.
