Hamilton and Leclerc hijack Ferrari's Instagram ahead of Singapore Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc temporarily took over Ferrari's Instagram account ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix, posting selfies and garage tours before the team issued a tongue-in-cheek 'unofficial statement' reclaiming control.
Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc brought a rare dose of chaos to Ferrari’s carefully managed social media presence on Thursday, briefly seizing control of the team’s Instagram account in a playful stunt ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix weekend.
The pair replaced Ferrari’s iconic prancing horse profile photo with a candid close-up selfie and proceeded to flood the account with behind-the-scenes content. Leclerc asked fans for their verdict on his hair, Hamilton led a tour of the garage and hospitality area, and the two drivers filmed themselves interrupting team meetings and applying comedy filters to each other’s faces.
Ferrari responded in kind, publishing what it called an ‘unofficial statement’ under the Scuderia Ferrari HP banner. “Over the past two hours, two individuals within the organisation gained unauthorised control of our social media channels,” it read. “During this period, a series of highly questionable editorial decisions were made, including changes to our profile picture and the publication of content that did not undergo our standard approval procedures.”
The statement continued: “We can confirm that the two suspects have been identified and the situation has now been contained. Full control of our accounts has been restored. We thank our fans for their understanding during this unprecedented incident.”
Fans responded warmly to the unscripted content. “This should happen every weekend,” one commenter wrote, while another said the takeover had made their day despite a packed schedule. A third described Hamilton’s filter experiments as giving off a “dad finds out how Snapchat filters work vibe.”
The lighthearted episode comes as both drivers head into a competitive weekend at Marina Bay. Hamilton sits third in the drivers’ championship with 214 points, while Leclerc is fourth on 191, with the Singapore round also featuring a sprint race.
