Isack Hadjar will miss this weekend’s Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid, Red Bull confirmed on Monday, marking the Frenchman’s third consecutive race absence as he continues to recover from a wrist injury. Liam Lawson steps back into the RB22 alongside Max Verstappen, with Yuki Tsunoda retaining his seat at Racing Bulls.

Red Bull moved to reassure that Hadjar’s rehabilitation is heading in the right direction, even if he is not yet fit to race. “The decision has been taken as Isack’s recovery continues to progress positively,” the team said in a statement. “While he is not yet ready to return to the cockpit, he will be in Madrid supporting the team.”

The arrangement means Lawson continues in an extended stand-in role at the senior Red Bull outfit, a situation that has now stretched across three rounds. Tsunoda, meanwhile, holds on to his Racing Bulls drive for another weekend after being displaced from the Red Bull seat when Hadjar’s injury first emerged.

No timeline has been given for Hadjar’s return to the car.
