Guehi and Rice return to training to boost England ahead of World Cup quarter-final with Norway
Marc Guehi and Declan Rice both trained with England's squad in Miami on the eve of their World Cup quarter-final against Norway, easing fears over a hamstring injury and a stomach bug respectively.
Marc Guehi and Declan Rice trained with the England squad at Inter Miami’s facilities on Wednesday, offering Thomas Tuchel a significant fitness boost ahead of the World Cup quarter-final against Norway in Miami. Guehi had been managing a hamstring injury, while Rice was struck down by a stomach bug following England’s win over Mexico last weekend.
Tuchel received further encouragement when Reece James also took part in the session as he continues his recovery from a hamstring problem, with the Chelsea full-back now looking set to be available for the last-eight tie.
The one notable absentee was Jordan Henderson, who is beginning his recovery from wrist surgery sustained during the celebrations after England’s win at the Estadio Azteca. Henderson has travelled to Miami with the squad but is present only in a supporting capacity.
England returned to Florida for the first time since their pre-tournament camp, training in 33-degree heat made more intense by the humidity. It is the kind of environment the squad specifically prepared for during their build-up, having played two games indoors and three others in cooler, wet conditions during the group stage.
