Gilbert Burns needed just 82 seconds to announce his return to competitive jiu-jitsu, submitting Horlando Monteiro via rear-naked choke in the co-main event of UFC BJJ 9 at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas on Thursday.

Burns, who retired from MMA in April, wasted little time imposing his grappling credentials on Monteiro — taking his back and locking in the rear-naked choke to force the tap before the opening round had barely begun. “I’m back to my roots,” Burns said after the win. “Try to stop me.”

Bella Mir, daughter of former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir, also delivered on the night. The 4-0 pro MMA fighter required three rounds to secure a submission finish over Nichelle Johnson, catching her arm for the armbar to improve her UFC BJJ record to 3-0.

In the main event, Mason Fowler retained his light heavyweight belt with a first-round rear-naked choke finish over Devhonte Johnson, continuing his dominance in the division.

The full UFC BJJ 9 results were as follows: Mason Fowler defeated Devhonte Johnson via first-round submission (rear-naked choke); Gilbert Burns defeated Horlando Monteiro via first-round submission (rear-naked choke); Nick Rodriguez defeated João Nicolite via first-round submission (rear-naked choke); Ffion Davies defeated Amanda Bruise via first-round submission (armbar); Bella Mir defeated Nichelle Johnson via third-round submission (armbar); Achilles Rocha defeated Filipe Pimentel via first-round submission (heel hook); John Chandler defeated Raphael Ferreira via third-round submission (triangle choke); Mourece Ramirez defeated Victor Delibero via unanimous decision; Ana Lima defeated Amanda Mazza via first-round submission (armbar).
