Germany take on Paraguay at Boston Stadium in a 2026 World Cup last-16 qualifier, their first knockout appearance at the tournament since Mario Götze’s extra-time winner secured the title against Argentina in Brazil twelve years ago.

Die Mannschaft have been far from convincing in the group stage. After opening with a win over Curaçao, Julian Nagelsmann’s side were beaten 2-1 by Ecuador in their final group fixture — a result that leaves them vulnerable heading into the knockout rounds and will encourage a Paraguay side that reached the quarter-finals at the 2010 World Cup.

Paraguay arrive with genuine belief that they can pull off an upset, and Germany’s inconsistent form throughout the tournament gives them every reason to feel confident.

The match kicks off at 9:30pm UK time. Gabby Logan leads the BBC’s studio coverage, joined by Micah Richards, Lucas Leiva and Thomas Hitzlsperger as pundits. Guy Mowbray and Alan Shearer are on commentary at the stadium, with former PGMOL match official Darren Cann providing officiating analysis and South American football expert Tim Vickery also part of the broadcast team.
