Gasly stuns McLaren duo Norris and Piastri in giant UNO showdown at Singapore paddock
Pierre Gasly outlasted Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in a super-sized game of UNO filmed in the Singapore paddock, with the Alpine driver claiming victory as Norris ended up holding half the deck. The video surpassed 320,000 views within a day of being posted.
Pierre Gasly defeated McLaren team-mates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in a giant game of UNO played in the Singapore paddock, with Formula 1’s official YouTube channel posting the clip to an audience that topped 320,000 views in under 24 hours.
The cards used were roughly the size of signboards, and the game opened with the three drivers attempting to shuffle the oversized deck. “Oh my god, they’re actually heavy as well,” Piastri said, while Norris joked: “I don’t want to injure myself,” laughing at his team-mate’s attempts to split the pile.
The rules were standard UNO — just with, as the official description put it, “extra big cards” — and whoever drew the highest number went first. That honour fell to Gasly, who wasted little time in stirring the pot. “Stop looking at my cards, man,” the Alpine driver laughed, as all three spent the game craning to see each other’s oversized hands.
Gasly moved clear first, landing a +4 on Norris before the two McLaren drivers began coordinating against their Alpine rival. He closed out his hand shortly after, leaving Norris and Piastri to settle the runner-up spot between them.
“OK, so it’s me against Oscar now,” said Norris, who was already carrying a sizeable stack. “We’ve both lost, so I don’t really care,” Piastri replied.
Norris’s pile only grew from there — at one point he managed to clip himself in the face with one of the giant cards — prompting Gasly to observe from the sidelines: “He’s got half the deck in his hand and still can’t play.” Piastri, briefly teaming up with Gasly, whittled his hand down and eventually ended the game, leaving Norris as the last man holding cards.
“That’s the first ever UNO game I’ve lost in my life,” Norris declared.
Reflecting on the match, Piastri suggested the sheer size of the cards changed the dynamic: “I think it’s a two-person job at some points with so many cards. You need to Frisbee a few.” Gasly drew a parallel to his own family traditions: “Not much argument. Usually with my family it goes down pretty badly over Christmas.”
The light-hearted paddock moment comes ahead of the United States Grand Prix, where the championship standings tell a different story. Norris sits sixth with 201 points and Piastri seventh on 138, while Gasly is 10th for Alpine on 41.
