Fresh blow for Saint-Étienne: Eymard sidelined for two to three weeks
As he was approaching a return to competition following fibula surgery, 18-year-old midfielder Paul Eymard suffered a fresh impact on his injury and will miss several weeks, including Saturday's trip to Red Star.
Paul Eymard will not make the trip to Saint-Ouen. The 18-year-old midfielder for AS Saint-Étienne, who was recovering from fibula surgery sustained late last season with the reserve team, suffered a fresh blow to his injury in recent days and is expected to remain sidelined for two to three additional weeks.
Head coach Ian Cathro confirmed the setback in a press conference, explaining that the impact caused severe pain and forced the medical staff to take precautions. “It’s really unfortunate that he took a blow in that exact spot,” he said, emphasizing that the club intended not to rush his return to avoid a relapse. “He’s a young player who can have a very promising career ahead of him. We’re going to try not to force things to avoid bringing him back too soon and then having to stop him later.”
Eymard will therefore not be available for Matchday 9 of Ligue 2 on Saturday during Saint-Étienne’s away trip to Red Star.
