Amad calls United's Champions League defeat a 'disgrace' as Martinez blasts club hierarchy
Manchester United winger Amad labelled the team's Champions League loss to Atletico Madrid a 'f***ing disgrace' on Snapchat, while defender Lisandro Martinez publicly criticised the club's recruitment, saying he 'expected more from our technical director'.
Manchester United suffered a damaging Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid, prompting an unusually public outpouring of anger from two of the club’s own players in the immediate aftermath.
Winger Amad posted a blunt reaction on his verified Snapchat account, writing: “I have no words” and “f***ing disgrace” as his caption — a rare instance of a United player airing frustration so openly on social media.
Defender Lisandro Martinez went further in a post-match interview, directing his criticism squarely at the club’s decision-makers. “I expected more from our technical director. I have to be honest,” he said. “As players, we have to do more, but it’s also important when you make a strong squad to be ready for these kinds of nights.”
Martinez drew a sharp contrast between last season’s foundations and the current squad’s depth, arguing that rival clubs had strengthened while United had not kept pace. “Many, many teams bring many players in as well, and today Atletico have an amazing team — they deserved to win,” he said.
The Argentine also acknowledged that opponents have had time to study United’s patterns under manager Michael Carrick, warning that standing still is no longer an option. “The teams know how you play, the teams know every detail. If you don’t change, next season is a big problem. You cannot keep changing managers. What about other areas?”
When asked directly about Carrick, Martinez was measured but pointed: “He does his best. But every season is different. You cannot say what you did last season.”
His overall verdict on the night was unambiguous: “It’s annoying, disappointing, to come here and not see my team trying to get an amazing result. It’s disappointing.”
The comments represent one of the most candid public criticisms of United’s structure from within the playing squad in recent memory, and are likely to intensify scrutiny on the club’s recruitment strategy heading into the next transfer window.
