Marlon Moraes put his MMA background to use on the job on March 27, when the former UFC title challenger — now a serving police officer in South Florida — used a hip toss to take down a motorist who refused repeated warnings to back away during a traffic stop.

Viral footage circulating on social media shows the confrontation escalating after the motorist repeatedly insulted Moraes and a fellow officer. Despite several clear warnings, the man stepped toward Moraes, who responded by executing a clean hip toss and bringing him to the ground, where other officers moved in to apply handcuffs.

Moraes joined the Davie Police Department in Florida in June 2024 and later transferred to the Coral Springs Police Department. The traffic stop incident is the latest development in an unusual post-fighting chapter for the Brazilian fighter, who has simultaneously pursued a career in law enforcement while returning to MMA competition.

Moraes departed the UFC in 2023 following a seven-fight losing streak. After a three-year absence from the cage, he returned on August 28 and defeated Maximiliano Perez by unanimous decision — his first victory since 2019.
