Malick Fofana wants to stay at Olympique Lyonnais — but on one condition. According to reports as the transfer window neared closure, the 21-year-old Belgian winger told his teammates in the dressing room that he wishes to continue his Lyon adventure, provided OL secures qualification for the Champions League group stage following the second leg of the playoff against Fenerbahce on Wednesday.

Yet there is no shortage of suitors. AS Roma and RB Leipzig are among the clubs that have targeted the player this summer, and Lyon’s management acknowledges having concrete offers for their prospect. For Fofana, playing in the Champions League in a Lyon shirt represents the ideal setting to take the next step in his development, while playing in an environment he already knows well.

Manager Paulo Fonseca confirmed this dynamic at his press conference, sounding reassuring about his player’s mindset. “It has been a difficult period for Malick, he had surgery, came back with pain, but now he is well, physically and mentally. He is very motivated to continue with us. We are not concerned about selling him: if we want to sell him now, we have offers,” the Portuguese coach said.
