Ferran Torres silent for six weeks, Luis Enrique dismisses concerns
Starting against Troyes (1-0) on Saturday in Ligue 1, Ferran Torres has not scored with PSG since September 20 and the trip to Marseille. His manager Luis Enrique is playing down the Spanish striker's drought.
Ferran Torres has not found the back of the net with Paris Saint-Germain since September 20, the date of the victory at Marseille (2-1). On Saturday evening, the Spanish striker was nonetheless in the starting lineup at Parc des Princes during the narrow victory against Troyes (1-0, matchday 10 of Ligue 1), but failed to convert the chances he created.
The drought has now lasted a month and a half, which contrasts sharply with his blistering start to the season: seven goals in six matches after his arrival at PSG, including a decisive goal in the 2026 World Cup final against Argentina with Spain. At his post-match press conference, Luis Enrique brushed aside the questions with a touch of irony. « At the start of the season, everyone was worried about Mika Godts, not Ferran, and now it’s the opposite. Don’t worry about any Paris Saint-Germain player. It’s normal that strikers miss and score goals. »
For the Spanish manager, the determining criterion remains the creation of chances. « The sine qua non condition for me is that the strikers continue to have big opportunities, » he clarified. From that perspective, PSG has nothing to be ashamed of in their performance against Troyes, even if victory was secured by the narrowest of margins.
Torres’ situation nevertheless deserves to be monitored. In the Ligue des Champions this week against Villarreal, it was Senny Mayulu who was deployed as number 9, a sign that the Spaniard is no longer automatically the priority in high-stakes matches. Regaining confidence and efficiency quickly is therefore essential for the 25-year-old striker if he is to make an impact in the major competitions ahead.
