Felder feared heart attack as Barcelos collapsed at UFC Vegas 121

Paul Felder feared the worst when Raoni Barcelos collapsed during the main event of UFC Vegas 121 at the Apex in Las Vegas, with the commentator revealing he initially believed the Brazilian had suffered a heart attack inside the Octagon.

Barcelose appeared to go limp during a wrestling exchange against the cage wall in the final round of his contest against Rosas Jr. The referee stopped the fight immediately, and Barcelos was removed from the Octagon on a stretcher and transported to a nearby hospital. It was later confirmed that he was conscious and responsive, and Barcelos has since addressed fans on social media to assure them he is doing well.

Felder, working on commentary duty at the Apex, described the moments after the stoppage as unforgettable. Speaking on the “Believe You Me” podcast, he recalled watching the medical team rush to attend to Barcelos and being alarmed when a ringside doctor checked the fighter’s pulse — something he said he had never witnessed in similar circumstances.

“His neck was all clinched up and he was unconscious,” Felder said. “And it looked like he was — I thought he had a heart attack, off the bat. Then they came in, and they checked his pulse, which was terrifying to see. I have never seen somebody that was KO’d, where they come in and the first thing they did, the doctor put his fingers right on Raoni’s pulse. I was like, ‘Oh, this is really bad.’”

Felder said the uncertainty deepened as Barcelos remained motionless on the canvas. “He was just not getting up and then I’m thinking, ‘Is it a stroke? Is it a heart attack?’” he added. “But if they weren’t doing CPR and his pulse was at least there and present and he’s breathing, probably not a heart attack.”

Barcelose reportedly remains under medical supervision. The incident drew widespread concern across the MMA community, with the back-and-forth nature of the main event making the sudden ending all the more jarring for those ringside.
