Manchester City welcome Coventry to the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League, with record signing Enzo Fernandez in contention to make his debut after completing a £125m move from Chelsea on deadline day.

Fernandez’s arrival equalled the British transfer record, and manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed the Argentine midfielder is “ready” to feature. Ilman Ndiaye, signed from Everton for £60m in the same frantic close to the window, could also be involved. Matheus Nunes is fit, while Jeremy Doku remains sidelined through injury.

City head into the match in strong form, having beaten Crystal Palace 4-1 last week. Erling Haaland opened his account for the season in that fixture, with Rayan Cherki adding a brace. Maresca will also have one eye on Tuesday’s Champions League trip to Porto.

For Coventry, the fixture represents another stern test after a difficult opening to life back in the top flight. Frank Lampard’s side lost on the opening day at champions Arsenal before conceding a late counter-attack goal to fall 1-0 to Hull last weekend.

Lampard has urged his players to recalibrate their expectations after last season’s Championship-winning campaign. “I think we all know that it will not look like last season and the quicker we realise that the better,” he said. “Last season was an incredible season for us because we won a lot and everything becomes easier in that moment. So it’s important that we understand the rigours of the Premier League.”

The Championship winners will need to improve significantly on their opening two performances if they are to take anything from the Etihad.
