England face Mexico at 1am as FIFA confirm World Cup last-16 schedule unchanged
FIFA have confirmed England's last-16 clash with Mexico at the Azteca will remain in its 1am Monday slot despite reports of a potential rescheduling. Canada vs Morocco opens the knockout stage on Saturday 4 July.
FIFA have confirmed that England’s round-of-16 tie against Mexico at the Azteca Stadium will kick off at 1am on Monday morning, dismissing reports that the fixture was set to be moved from its original slot in the World Cup 2026 schedule.
The knockout stage gets under way on Saturday 4 July with Canada taking on Morocco at 6pm, followed by Paraguay vs France at 10pm the same evening.
Sunday 5 July brings Brazil against Norway at 9pm. Carlo Ancelotti’s side reached the last 16 with a nervy 2-1 win over Japan and now face Erling Haaland’s Norway. England’s meeting with Mexico at the Azteca follows in the early hours of Monday morning.
Portugal and Spain then meet in a heavyweight Iberian derby at 8pm on Monday, one of the standout ties of the round.
Tuesday completes the last-16 programme with three fixtures. Co-host nation USA, who have impressed under Mauricio Pochettino, face Belgium at 1am. Lionel Messi’s Argentina, who survived a scare against Cape Verde in the last 32, meet Mohamed Salah’s Egypt at 5pm. Switzerland and Colombia round off the round at 9pm.
The full quarter-final line-up will be known once that final fixture concludes.
