Thomas Tuchel’s England will face either Argentina or Switzerland in the World Cup semi-finals at Atlanta Stadium on Wednesday, provided they first overcome Norway in their quarter-final in Miami.

England reached the last eight with a dramatic 3-2 victory over co-hosts Mexico at the historic Azteca Stadium. Jude Bellingham scored a first-half brace and Harry Kane converted a penalty, before a 10-man England held on through a tense rearguard action to advance.

Norway arrive in the quarter-finals in formidable form, having knocked out five-time champions Brazil in the round of 16. Erling Haaland was the architect of that upset, scoring twice in the second half to seal a 2-1 win despite Neymar’s late consolation penalty.

Should England defeat Norway, they will not have long to wait to learn their semi-final opponents. The other quarter-final on their side of the bracket — Lionel Messi’s Argentina against Switzerland — kicks off at 2am BST on Sunday morning, directly after England’s own tie.

Argentina, the defending World Cup holders, reached the quarter-finals after a controversial 3-2 comeback victory over Egypt. Switzerland, meanwhile, enter as underdogs but carry genuine momentum, having beaten Colombia on penalties to reach this stage.

The winners of both quarter-finals will meet in the semi-final at Atlanta Stadium on Wednesday, with kick-off scheduled for 8pm BST.
