Ekitike begins light jogging and targets competitive return in December

Hugo Ekitike has reached an encouraging milestone in his recovery: the Liverpool striker has begun jogging, six months after rupturing his right Achilles tendon on April 14 during a match against PSG. According to L’Équipe, the 24-year-old is planning to resume running training in November, with the goal of returning to competitive action in December.

Since his surgery, Ekitike has progressed through each recovery stage. In late August, he symbolically kicked off a match at Reims, his academy club. In September, he continued his treatment at Clairefontaine before joining Liverpool to continue his rehabilitation. In recent days, he also traveled to the United States to consult a specialist, a new step that confirms he remains on schedule.

Caution remains warranted, however. An Achilles tendon rupture is one of the longest injuries to treat in elite football, and return timelines can vary significantly depending on the player’s sensations and recovery progress. No precise date has therefore been set yet.

The stakes are considerable for Ekitike, who was on the verge of breaking into the France squad before being sidelined by this injury. A return in December would allow him to play part of Liverpool’s second half of the season and revive his international ambitions before the end of the campaign.
