Diaz calls for Perry rematch after corner stoppage loss at MVP's Intuit Dome event

Nate Diaz lost via corner stoppage to Mike Perry in the co-main event of Most Valuable Promotions’ ‘Rousey vs. Carano’ card on May 16 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, but the Stockton veteran has wasted no time in calling for a second fight. The defeat — Diaz’s first MMA bout in nearly four years — was one-sided, with Perry bloodying and battering him for the duration of the two rounds contested.

The loss ended a lengthy absence that stretched back to Diaz’s fourth-round submission win over Tony Ferguson at UFC 279 on September 10, 2022. At the post-fight press conference he dismissed retirement talk, and a subsequent Instagram statement doubled down on that defiance while setting his sights squarely on Perry.

“I didn’t like my lack of activity because of lack of opponents,” Diaz wrote. “I know it was easier to get up to fight me for this fight but now I believe it will be easier to fight him. But all good shoutout to Mike on the win and getting me off my ass. Time to kill now. I got something to do. Now I’ve got a target. Hunting season. Take that motherf—-er out.”

The statement signals that Diaz views the defeat less as a setback and more as a catalyst. Whether MVP can accommodate a rematch remains an open question — the promotion has not announced a follow-up MMA event. The ‘Rousey vs. Carano’ card was MVP’s debut on Netflix and drew strong viewership figures both domestically and internationally, with the company expressing optimism about the future of its MMA slate in a post-event release.

A Diaz-Perry rematch would be a natural headliner or co-headliner for any subsequent MVP card, though no booking has been confirmed.
